Do I Have To Love The Product To Own The Business?
One of the easiest ways to become interested in a franchise is to love the product.
Maybe it's your favorite restaurant.
Maybe your kids love the place.
Maybe you've been a customer for years.
That can make a brand interesting.
But it doesn't necessarily make it the right business for you to own.
Think about what you're actually buying.
If you own a restaurant franchise, your job isn't primarily to eat the food.
It's managing people, controlling costs, driving sales, maintaining standards, and operating a restaurant.
If you own a home-service franchise, your job may eventually have very little to do with personally providing the service.
It may be recruiting technicians, generating leads, networking, managing schedules, and building a team.
The question isn't:
"Do I love this product?"
It's:
"Do I want to own this business?"
Those are completely different things.
Sometimes the franchise that best fits someone's skills, goals, and lifestyle is in an industry they never would have considered on their own.
That's one of the fascinating things about exploring franchising.
You may start by looking for a recognizable brand.
You may end up discovering a business model you had never heard of before.
